So called “stick training” where you shove a stick at the birds feet until it steps up is the stupidest training advice I have seen and do not recommend it to anyone because it is a negative way to train.

Target training is much better because it lets the bird voluntarily walk over or have the option of walking away. The bird won’t bite if it isn’t forced. The “shove stick at feet” method is forcing and causes aggression.

Too much toys is bad. I limit to 3 toys at a time. I rotate them often.

I have my lovebird trained to the point you show in your video with your Senegal. Have you had any luck getting him to let you touch him? If so, how did you go about it. My lovebird is still very hand shy even though he will step up on my finger, hand, arm etc. If I go to touch him, he will try to bite me.

I have a cockatiel …
I have a cockatiel and teaching him like u and it really works! And today I went to pet store and saw a friendly senegal parrot and he was hand fed. When I put my fingers close to him he came to the cage and putted his head so I could scratch him. I was afraid at first but he was really squeezing his head to the cage and I gave him a scratch and in split second he FREAKIN bit me hard. Not to blood but I was soo freaked out :S. I always wanted a senegal but not anymore :,(

Don’t get so discouraged, it was just scared of you. You might have pet it in the wrong spot and it was trying to tell you “don’t pet me there”.

Glad this video helped you with your cockatiel, and if you ever get another bird you can use the same techniques.
